Andaman and Nicobar


 Before the independence of a small steam driven reciprocating DG generator capacity of 100 KW was installed by the British on Ross Island in 1926. DG sets current capacity of 100 kW was installed at Port Blair during 1929. After the independence of two generators steam turbine of 550 KW each were created in 1951 in the Power House at Chatham Island . Boilers were operated on firewood and sawdust , which are waste Chatham Saw Mill and later on switched Mangrove wood was used as fuel. This was the beginning of the AC power to Port Blair.

Due to geographical and topographical features of these islands, including the separation by sea over long distances , there is no single power grid for all islands electrified and instead of a power house meets independently of power requirements of a region.

The electrical department of  here work for 24 X 365 days with a goal of providing safe and uninterrupted supply in the Andaman and Nicobar whole .
    
     Andaman and nicobar islands have no online payment option for paying the electrical bill.
